CS34Q: Implementation of Interpreters

Welcome to the CS34Q home page! This page is intended to be a distribution site for any electronic information relevant to the course. At the moment, it contains little more than links to the content handed out in class. Suggestions for other useful information are welcome.

Note: Most documents have been provided in both HTML as well as Postscript. The Postscript file is better suited for printing, and for viewing formatted Mathematical expressions.

(Dec. 21, 2006) You may now view your (raw) coursework grades here. If you find any discrepancies, please notify me as soon as possible.
(Dec. 21, 2006) Please note that I have posted a test script below for checkoff. Please run your interpreter on it and edit it as necessary in order to get your interpreter to run through the whole file as necessary. When I come to checkoff, perform a diff to compare the two files so I can see how much you had to comment out, and then run your interpreter on your tweaked file to show me the output. Getting this organized before the checkoff will make the process quick, and less painful.

(Dec. 20, 2006) I got no requests for checkoff slots. So, I canvassed the lab tonight and got the following requests for checkoff.

Remember that the lab should be closing at 8pm tomorrow, so there are no scheduled slots for 8pm or after. Groups that have not yet signed up, please email me with a preferred slot. I will be here from about 11am tomorrow (Thursday).

(Dec. 19, 2006) There are now several SMPL examples available below for you to try your interpreters on (preferably before the checkoff). If you know you will be ready, then please start sending me your preferred time to checkoff. It should be obvious to you that everyone won't be able to checkoff at the same time. It takes about 1 hour to checkoff. (All checkoffs do not have to be on Thursday, you can schedule one for Wednesday, if you wish).
(Dec. 11, 2006) The CS34Q semantic generator is now ready (for beta testing). You may read the instructions on how to use it here.
(Dec. 1, 2006) The CS36Q exam from 2005 has been posted below to help you revise. The CS36Q exams for previous years are available on the CS36Q home pages (one per year).
(Nov. 29, 2006 2006 Specifications for SMPL (SMPL with Objects) are now available below. Your current project is to implement an interpreter for this language.
(Nov. 16, 2006) Assignment 3 is now available. You can find a reference manual for SVG on the CS34Q top level page. Use this to help you construct the necessary forms in your translation process. (You may also need a little Javascript to help you with your function translations).
(Nov. 6, 2006) Assignment 2 is now available.
(Oct 20, 2006) The submission page for Assignment 1 has been activated. Use the first slot to submit a zip file of your lambda calculus interpreter (Problem 3), and the second slot to submit your implementation of factorial (Problem 4).
(Oct 9, 2006) Assignment 1 is now available. Note that you will need to have jlex and cup set up in order to do this assignment.

Assignment 4: Interpreter for SMPL with Objects. The first question of the project is to implement an interpreter for SMPL with objects according to the specifications given below. I will post the second part shortly, which will ask you to write a small program in this SMPL version and test it on your interpreter.

The semantic generator tool is now (sort of) ready for use. It has basic functionality, and at least can generate the intermediate classes as well as the Visitor interface for you. All you need to do is to provide an appropriate semantic specification file. Check it out here.

Before checkoff, try running your interpreter on this file, and check that your output matches what the file says it should.
